Every year India celebrates National Science Day on 28thFebruary, to commemorate the day on which eminent physiscist Sir C.V.Raman discovered the Raman effect in 1928. The Raman Effect is a phenomenon in spectroscopy discovered by him while working in the laboratory of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata. After two years of this discovery, Sir C. V. Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiscs in 1930. Hence the National Science Day is a great day for Indian Science and the scientific community.
Scientific institutions,science based agencies, universities , schools, colleges and state S&T Councils
celebrate this day by organizing activities such as S&T Exhibitions,
popular lectures, quiz and essay competitions involving the public, all aimed at nurturing a scientific temper in them. The focal theme for the National Science Day 2012 is “Clean Energy Options and Nuclear Safety.
