Government on Wednesday said that it will soon come up with a new National Policy on Senior Citizens.

Addressing a conference on senior citizens in New Delhi, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Mukul Wasnik said that government is holding rigorous discussions to finalize the policy.

He said that government is also encouraging awareness campaigns for better implementation of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.

The Minister also said that a new scheme of National Awards for eminent senior citizens and institutions working in the field of ageing would be formulated shortly.
