Govt. plans to increase stake of renewable energy in power generation<br/>The Government today launched an ambitious plan to increase the stake of renewable energy in the total electricity generation. In an official statement issued today, the Minister for New Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah announced the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission is to increase solar power generation.<br/><br/>The mission is one of the eight key National Missions under the National Action Plan on climate change. The solar mission will create 20 thousand megawatts of installed capacity of solar power inthe country by the end of 13th five year plan in 2002. It will also establish a single window investor friendly mechanism to attract private players.<br/> <br/>Dr. Abdullah added that a plan to set up 11 hundred negawatts of grid solar power and 200 megawatts capacity of off-grid solar applications has already been approved. Research and development and human resource development will also be focused to enhance indigenous skill and content for the mission.<br/><br/> <br/><br/><br/>
