India and Britain have agreed to enhance cooperation in research to develop innovative medical products. The two countries have also agreed to increase funding pattern for cooperation in the field of science and technology. The decisions were taken at a meeting between Minister of State for Science and Technology Ashwani Kumar and Britain's Minister for State for Universities Science David Willets in New Delhi today.

Talking to reporters after the meeting Dr Ashwani Kumar said that each country will fund over 50 million pounds for various Science and Technology projects. The Minister also announced that in an effort to encourage scientists of Indian origin working abroad to return to India, the Department of Biotechnology has partnered with the Wellcome Trust, of Britain to launch a fellowship programme on biomedical research at the post-doctoral level.
