The government today said Human Resource Development (HRD) has launched National Institutional Ranking Framework on September 29, 2015 to empower a larger number of Indian Institutions to participate in the global ranking. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, HRD minister Mrs Smriti Irani said this will create a significant impact nationally and internationally. Mrs Irani said the committee conducted various meetings and consulted stakeholders and submitted its report titled 'Technical Education in India a futuristic scenario' to the HRD ministry on June 12th this year. The minister informed the House that the committee recommended that AICTE should be converted into a constitutional autonomous apex authority.

The committee also recommended the National Board of Accreditation should be the umbrella authority charged with the power to recognise accreditation agencies. Mrs Irani said the Kaw committee has opined that affiliation should be phased out within a decade and AICTE should regulate, mentor and develop technical institutions.
