The National Identification Authority of India Bill, 2010 was withdrawn from Rajya Sabha today. The withdrawal was necessitated following introduction of a bill on the subject. <br/><br/>The government has introduced the Aadhaar(targeted delivery of financial and other subsidies, benefits and services) Bill, 2016, in the Lok Sabha today, which is a money bill. The opposition objected to making the new bill into a money bill. <br/><br/>Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said it is an attempt to by-pass the Upper House, which has not powers in respect of money bills. Defending the government's decision, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said this is a different bill. <br/><br/>He said it is for the Lok Sabha Speaker to certify whether the bill is a money bill or not. Anand Sharma and Jairam Ramesh, both of the Congress, wanted to know the intention of the government for withdrawing the bill.
