The one-man committee under Gautam Chatterjee is likely to submit its inquiry report on alleged irregularities in transfer of land to Associated Journal Limited (AJL) by 14th of this month. Mr. Chatterjee said this to the agencies in Mumbai after doubts were raised over the committee's functioning as he retired from the post of Maharashtra Additional Chief Secretary last month. The state government has asked him to conclude the inquiry even after his retirement, he said.

AJL, which used to publish the now-defunct National Herald newspaper, is currently constructing a commercial building at the piece of land at a crucial spot close to Western Express Highway in Mumbai. It is alleged to be in violation of rules as the land was allotted for construction of Nehru Memorial Library.
