National Handloom Day celebrated to encourage use of handmade loom

National Handloom Day was celebrated today to give an impetus to the sector and encourage the use of handmade loom.<br/><br/>7th of August was chosen as the Swadeshi Movement was formally launched on this day in 1905. The movement involved revival of domestic products and production processes.<br/><br/>A number of functions were organised across the country today on the occasion.<br/><br/>Addressing the weavers at Ahmedabad Haat in Gujarat, Union Minister for Textile and Information and Broadcasting Smriti Irani said, India is leading in getting the Geographical Indication tag for handloom and handicrafts.<br/><br/>The main function of National Handloom Day was held in Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal, Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta attended the programme.
