National Girl Child Day: Karnataka govt conducts Decoy operations to expose suspects indulging in offence of determining sex

<span style="color: #222222;">Beti &nbsp;Bachao Beti padao &nbsp;andolan has improved gender ratio and reduced girl child infanticide in the country. In Karnataka the programme is being implemented in Vijayapura, Gadag, Haveri, Dakshina Kannada and Bagalkot where the gender ratio was below 935 female to 1000 male ratio. The Pre-Conception Anti Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act or PC&amp;PNDT rules are reinforced to prevent girl child infanticide.<br />” <br />” AIR Correspondent reports that there are 4993 scanning centres registered in Karnataka, of which 4715 are private scanning centres and 278 are government scanning centres.<br />” <br />” Government of Karnataka is conducting Decoy operations to expose the suspects indulging in offence of determining sex and awarding remuneration of Rs.50000 on success of each sting operation.<br />” <br />” Till date a total of 84 cases have been registered for violating PC &amp; PNDT act, of which 43 cases are penalized for violation and 41 cases are pending for judgement.<br />” <br />” The Government has introduced BALIKA software for effective reporting violations. To empower the Untrained Registered Medical Practitioners who conduct the scanning, they are given Competency Based Test and Education in collaboration with the Department of Medical Education. A total of 198 doctors have successfully cleared the exams and issued certificates.<br />”<br />”To create awareness among the public, effective IEC is publicised through radio and video jingles.</span>
