<span style="color: #222222;">National Girl Child Day is being observed today. The theme this year is 'Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow'. The Women and Child Development Ministry has organised an event in Delhi to observe the anniversary of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' scheme. Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi will be the Chief Guest. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The Minister will felicitate Principal Secretaries and Commissioners of five states for their overall support, guidance and monitoring of the scheme. District Magistrates and Deputy Commissioners of 25 districts covering 21 states and Union Territories will also be felicitated for their exemplary works. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">"Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi  in January  2015 at Panipat in Haryana. Seeing the good progress and improving trend of sex ratio at birth in 161 implementing districts, Mr Modi launched the all India expansion of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao covering all 640 districts last year. </span><br />'' <br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">It is a central sector scheme with 100 per cent financial assistance for district-level component and the funds are directly released to the DC and DM's account. The scheme is a comprehensive programme to address the declining child sex ratio and related issues of empowerment of women. </span><br />

National Girl Child Day being observed today

Today is National Girl Child Day. The government had, in 2008, declared 24th January each year to be observed as the National Girl Child Day. The objective is to raise the consciousness of society towards the girl child so that she can be valued and respected. In the national capital, a special function has been organised by the Women and Child Development Ministry to mark the occasion.<br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, it is a day to celebrate the exceptional achievements of the girl child, whose excellence in many fields makes the country proud. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, it is imperative to reject discrimination against the girl child and ensure equal opportunities. The Prime Minister appealed to the people to reaffirm their commitment to challenging stereotypes based on gender and promote gender sensitisation as well as gender equality.

National Girl Child Day being observed today

Today is the National Girl Child Day. The government, in 2008 declared 24th of January every year to be celebrated as the National Girl Child Day' with the objective of raising consciousness of the society towards the girl child so that she can be valued and respected.<br/><br/>In the national capital, the day will be celebrated at a special function organized by the Women and Child Development Ministry in the light of exemplary achievements by nation's daughters during 2016.
