National Food Security Act to be implemented in all remaining states by April 1st

National Food Security Act will be implemented in all remaining states and union territories barring Tamil Nadu by 1st of April this year. Currently 25 states have rolled out the Act and 11 are in the process of doing so. Briefing media in New Delhi today about achievements of his Ministry, Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said that direct cash transfer of food subsidy is being implemented on a pilot basis in Puducherry and Chandigarh. He said Dadra and Nagar Haveli is also in full readiness for implementation of this cash transfer scheme.<br/><br/>Outlining the steps taken to strengthen Public Distribution System (PDS) , Mr. Paswan said digitization of ration cards is one of the important components for making PDS leak proof and the government has digitized 97 per cent ration cards across the country so far. He said Centre will soon achieve 100 per cent digitization of ration cards. <br/><br/>The Minister further said that the transparency portal to display all operations of PDS has been launched in 27 states and UTs and Online system for redressal of PDS grievances has been put in place in all states . In order to provide nutritional security to economically vulnerable sections , Mr. Paswan said, a committee of ministers under his chairmanship has not only decided continuation of foodgrain allocation for Other Welfare Schemes but also recommended for providing milk and eggs.
