The country today embarked on a national cyber security policy aimed at providing a robust framework for protecting its critical information infrastructure as well as for inclusive growth. Launching the National Cyber Security Policy 2013 in New Delhi, Communications and IT Minister Kapil Sibal said, the new policy will prevent cyber attacks and crimes and reduce national vulnerability to such attacks. He said, it will cater to the cyber security requirements of government and non-government entities at the national and international levels. Mr Sibal stressed the need for protecting key nuclear installations, banking system and power stations from cyber attacks saying cyber security is important for the country's economic stability.
Mr Sibal stated that indigenisation of computer software and semiconductor chips is essential to protect India from cyber attacks. He said, information aimed at empowering citizens must be protected in the virtual space as delivery of products and services is now taking place through the online media.
