National Conference ready to break alliance with Congress in Jammu if situation arises: Farooq

National Conference President and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah today said Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will take a final call on continuing the alliance with Congress in the State. Responding to a media query on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi, Dr Abdullah said that the party is ready to leave the alliance if situation arises.

AIR correspondent reports, sharp differences have emerged in NC-Congress alliance on the issue of creation of new administrative units in the State.

Omar Abudullah on the setting up of new administrative unit had on last Friday said that either the Mushtaq Gani Committee Report will have to be adopted or the government will have to go.

The Congress alleged that the Gani Committee Report, which has recommended creations of over 900 new administrative units, is biased and people from all districts should first be taken into confidence.

Meanwhile, Congress leadership met in New Delhi last night to end the stalemate and save the alliance. The meeting was held at the residence of AICC General Secretary in-charge of the state Ambika Soni.

Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, State PCC chief Saifuddin Soz, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and state Congress ministers including G H Mir, G A Mir and Rigzin Zora attended the meeting.

AIR correspondent reports that coalition partners National Conference and congress are engaged in in-party consultations over the standoff. He adds that more than present standoff future electoral calculations are weighing heavily in in-party consultations over the bill.

Repeated appeals by Speaker N Manohar to resume business had no impact and he adjourned the house initially for an hour. When the house met again there was no change in the situation and deputy speaker adjourned the house one more hour.

Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy giving a notice to the Speaker seeking rejection of the bill has caused deadlock in the proceedings for past two days.
