A national conference on Women Legislators will begin in New Delhi from tomorrow. The two-day conference will be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee. The Vice President and the Lok Sabha Speaker will also address the inaugural session. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the valedictory session on Sunday. The conference is being organized at the initiative of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the conference will provide women legislators from across the country first ever platform to interact with their counterparts and learn from them. It is likely to be attended by 300 women MLAs, MLCs, MPs Union Ministers and Chief Ministers.<br/><br/>The conference will equip the women legislators from across India with latest knowledge in relevant areas and provide them with the right perspective, motivation and guidance in their roles as legislators and powerful agents of socio-economic progress and change as well as good governance. It will update them about current national and international issues that are relevant to their field of work. <br/><br/>The proceedings of the conference are expected to significantly enhance their effectiveness. It will help in contributing them to nation-building and overall development for a resurgent and inclusive India. The conference will hone the skills and abilities of the legislators to perform their legislative and non-legislative leadership roles with a sharper focus and greater effectiveness. Speaker of Bangladesh Dr Shirin Chaudhary will also attend the conference and will be chairperson of the plenary session.
