The National Commission for Scheduled Castes today held an awareness camp at Gorakhpur in UP to apprise the members of SC of their rights and programmes launched by the central and state governments. The Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes P L Punia chaired the meeting.He said the situation of Dalits in every state including Uttar Pradesh is pathetic and the commission is taking stern action against the police and administrative officials who are hostile on complaints of atrocities inflicted on Dalits.He said the Commission will hold such awareness camps across the country to educate the society's weaker sections about their rights. He criticised the UP Chief Minister Ms Mayawati saying that she refused to send state’s Social Welfare Minister to NCSC for reviewing the situation of Dalits in the state.
