National coach Houghton quits, AIFF denies

National coach Bob Houghton has quit following a tiff with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) over the extension of his contract Quoting official sources PTI said; he has sent his resignation on Saturday and has given three months noticeAIFF General Secretary Alberto Colaco, however, denied that the Englishman has put in his papers. Talking to media on the issue, AIFF President Praful Patel has vehemently denied the fact and has insisted that it was a mere speculation from media.He said that neither Houghton has resigned and nor federation has recieved his resignation. For him he is still the Indian football Coach. Senior Football Player Baichung Bhutia has also said that the Indian team still needs Houghton. Houghton had threatened to resign if his contract was not renewed till 2013, besides demanding a hike of USD 10,000 per month after his current tenure ends in January 2011.
