National Armed Forces Flag Day being observed today

The National Armed Forces Flag Day is being observed today.

The day is dedicated for rehabilitation of battle casualties, welfare of serving personnel, resettlement and welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.

In her message on the occasion President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil urged citizens to voluntarily contribute towards the noble cause of the rehabilitation of war windows, disabled defence personnel and ex-servicemen. She said, the day reminds the countrymen of their responsibility towards the Armed Forces for their splendid service and sacrifice for the motherland.

In his message Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh appealed to all citizens to contribute generously to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund.

He expressed confidence that Armed Forces will continue to serve the nation with their traditional excellence.

Defence Minister A.K Antony called upon the people to show solidarity with Armed Force personnel through liberal contributions. Several functions are being organised across the country to mark the day.
