Nation wide bandh by opposition against petrol price hike evokes response

The nation -wide bandh by some opposition against the recent petrol price hike has evoked response. Train services in some parts of the country were affected as people sat on tracks to protest against the hike in petrol prices. However, there were no reports of disruption of flights.

In Punjab and Haryana, Bharat Bandh call given by National Democratic Front get mixed response. The complete bandh was observed in Panipat, Yamunanagar , Jagadhari, Sadoura, Khijrabad, Chachrolli, Bilaspur but government offices remained open.

In Madhya Pradesh, the bandh evoked partial response.

In Gujarat, most of the main markets were closed in all major cities including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot however vehicular traffic movement was normal.

In Rajasthan, city bus service of roadways and rail services were normal.
The bandh in Chhattisgarh remained peaceful.

In Odisha, train services were hit with bandh supporters blocking tracks at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur and Balasore, delaying several trains including the Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Express.

In Bihar, protesters disrupted railway services on Howarah-Mugalasarai rail section.

In West Bengal, the bandh evoked little response. Most of the offices and establishments, and educational institutions were open.

In Mumbai, municipal buses, trains, autos and taxis were plying as usual but shop -keeper in various areas kept their establishment closed.

In Assam, Police arrested hundreds of picketers at Rangiya, Ledo, Badarpur and the Guwahati city who tried to disrupt the train services.

The Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange and other commodity markets functioned normally.
In Karnataka, shops and business establishments remained closed through out the day.

In the National Capital, the bandh evoked a partial response, as BJO supporters blocked traffic at some places putting commuters to hardship. Office establishments reported normal attendance.

BJP has termed NDA's Bharat bandh on petrol price hike as big success and historic one. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar claimed that the bandh has got overwhelming support across the country.

The Left partied have demanded immediate rollback of the petrol prices. In a joint statement, the parties claimed that people have registered a strong protest against petrol price hike in today's Bharat bandh across the country.
