Nation pays tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on 68th birth anniversary

The nation pays tributes to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 68th birth anniversary today. Several functions are being held across the country to remember the former Prime Minister. The President Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Mohd. Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and other dignitaries visited Veer Bhumi in New Delhi and paid floral tributes at the Samadhi of Rajiv Gandhi.

An all religion prayer meeting was held to remember the departed leader. Earlier, the 20th Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award was presented to D.R.Mehta, the founder and Chief Patron of the organization that popularised the Jaipur Foot, for his outstanding contribution towards promotion of communal harmony, peace and goodwill in New Delhi yesterday. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said, Non-Governmental Organisations should join hands with the government in implementing social welfare schemes to realise the dreams of Rajiv Gandhi.
