Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari led the nation in paying tributes to Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 110th birth anniversary today. A prayer meeting was held at his samadhi at Samta Sthal in New Delhi this morning. <br/><br/>Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawarchand Gehlot and dignitaries from various walks of life visited Samta Sthal and paid tributes to the former Deputy Prime Minister.<br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid rich tributes to Jagjivan Ram. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, Jagjivan Ram's service to the nation and his struggles for the rights of the marginalised always inspire the people.<br/><br/>The birth anniversary of the veteran leader is celebrated as Samta Diwas by the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry. <br/><br/>Jagjivan Ram, known popularly as Babuji, was a political leader as well as a noted freedom fighter. He was born on this day in 1908 in Chandwa, Bihar.
