President Pranab Mukherjee led the nation in paying homage to the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 66th death anniversary today.

Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister A K Antony and prominent leaders from various political parties and other dignitaries paid floral tributes at his Samadhi at Rajghat in the national capital.

An all religion prayer meeting were organised at the Samadhi and his favourite Bhajans was recited. A two-minute silence was observed across the nation at 11 memory of the Father of the nation.

The day is also observed as a Martyr day. It was on this day in 1948 when Mahatma Gandhi, fell to an assassin's bullets.
