The Nation pays homage to the former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 44th death anniversary on Monday.<br/><br/>A series of functions have been organised in the national capital to mark the day.<br/><br/>Early in the morning, an all religion prayer meeting was held at his Samadhi at Vijay Ghat.<br/><br/>Lal Bahadur Shastri became the second Prime Minister of India after the death of Jawaharlal Nehru on 27 May 1964. He served the nation as Prime Minister for 19 months.<br/><br/>Shastriji gave the country the slogan of 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan'. Lal Bahadur Shastri passed away at Tashkent on this day in 1966.<br/>
