Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s 55th death anniversary is being observed as Mahaparinirvan Divas across Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra today. Thousands of followers are arriving in Chaitya Bhoomi, the memorial to Dr Ambedkar, in Dadar to pay homage to the architect of the Indian constitution.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made by the city police to avoid any untoward incidents. Chaitya Bhoomi has also been sanitised and anti-sabotage checks have been carried out at the venue.
The fringes of the ground have been dotted by medical and police help desks and ambulances, while the centre has been occupied by stalls selling books, badges, flags and wrist bands with Ambedkar’s image and music CDs.
The traffic police have made arrangements on roads leading to the venue from the railway station as a majority of visitors would be coming from outside the city.
