Nation paying tributes to Quit India Movement martyrs

Today is the 73rd Anniversary of the Quit India Movement, as on this day in 1942 Mahatma Gandhi launched a mass protest demanding what he called "an orderly British withdrawal" from India. Gandhiji gave a slogan of 'Do or Die'. Almost the entire Indian National Congress leadership was imprisoned without trial within hours after Gandhiji's speech on 8th August, 1942. Most Leaders spent months in prison and out of contact with the masses. The Quit India Movement created an electrifying atmosphere in the country and culminated in achievement of Independence after five years.
