Nation observes ‘Sadbhavana Diwas’ on Rajiv Gandhi’s 66th birth anniversary today

Several functions are being observed across the country on the occasion of Sadbhavana Diwas on Friday, marking the 66th Birth Anniversary of Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, led the nation on Friday morning in paying floral tributes to the departed leader. Vice-President Mr. Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi were among other dignitaries who visited the Samadhi Sthal of Rajiv Gandhi at Veer Bhumi and paid tributes. The theme of “Sadbhavana Diwas” is to promote National Integration and communal harmony among the people of all religions, languages, Goodwill towards all and to eschew violence. People across the country reaffirm their commitment to the message of the day by taking the “Sadbhavana Day Pledge today”.In Pudduchhery, floral tribute was paid to late Rajiv Gandhi. The Chief Minister Mr.Vaidyalingam, his cabinet colleagues, MLAs and Pradesh Congress Committee President Mr.A V Subramanian garlanded the Statue of Rajiv Gandhi. The participants took Sadbhavana Diwas pledge and Renewable Energy Saving pledge also on the occasion. A function was also held marking the occasion at the Congress Office also.In Gujarat, senior Congress leaders have paid rich tribute to Rajiv Gandhi by garlanding his portrait. In a special function held at Ahmedabad, the best students of science faculty have been felicitated on this occasion. Congress student leader Manish Doshi- praised the rich contribution of Rajiv Gandhi in technology revolution and voting rights to the youth. He said that Rajiv Gandhi will remain the source of inspiration for the Indian youths. The Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana awards would also be conferred on the awardees today.
