The Nation observes the first death anniversary of former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam today.<br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Dr. Kalam on his first death anniversary. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, its been a year since our beloved Dr. Kalam left us and created a void that is irreplaceable.<br/><br/>Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu, Manohar Parikkar unveiled bronze statue of former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam in Rameswaram today.The foundation stone of Dr Kalam National memorial was also laid at Rameswaram today. Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu recalled the teachings and achievements of Dr Kalam.<br/><br/> <br/><br/>Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu showered accolades on the former President recalling Kalam Vision of making developed India in 2020. He said that central government has selected Rameswaram under Amrut scheme as a special case. 48 crore rupees scheme has been announced for Rameswaram with 45 crore rupees for sanitation and 3 crore rupees for planting trees and garden.<br/><br/><br/>One year since the country lost its 'People's President', the students of IIM Shillong with whom he had spent his last moments remembered him fondly and over 200 students joined hands and undertook a tree plantation drive Prakriti and planting saplings around Shillong. On the occasion, Dr. Amitabha De, Director, IIM Shillong said "Dr. Kalam's legacy is to make the planet more liveable, not only for the present, but for future generations as well.<br/><br/>To pay our respects to the legend, we would name the auditorium in our new campus after Dr. Kalam with a life size statue of him placed outside the new auditorium. Dr. Basav Roychoudhury, Chairperson PGPM, said, The plantation drive is our small initiative to making the planet more liveable focusing on aspects related to the environment as well as human life. To commemorate the first death anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the Institute pay homage to remember the beloved President and his ideals.
