Nation celebrations Chhath

In Bihar, the Chhath Puja is being celebrated with religious fervors and gaiety. Chhath is considered a means to thank the Sun God for bestowing the bounties of life on the earth and prosperity. Standing in knee-deep water on the banks of rivers, ponds and water reservoirs, devotees will pay oblations to the setting sun this evening and rising sun tomorrow morning. During the Chhath, worshippers do fasting of 36 hours without taking food and water. AIR Patna correspondent reports that the whole atmosphere is reverberating with devotional folk songs. Roads and Ghats have been tastefully decorated with flowers and lights of different colours. Elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure a trouble free congregation at all the ghats through out the state for Chhath Puja. Lakhs of devotees have thronged at Sun temple in Deo of Aurangabad , Bargao of Nalanda and Pandarak in Patna districts of the state to perform chhath puja. It is believed that the wishes of those observing Chhath festival with serenity and purity are fulfilled.<br/> <br/>Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Mr.Tarun Gogoi has extended his best wishes to all sections of people on the occasion of Chhath puja, being observed across the State today and tomorrow. In a message, Mr.Gogoi called upon the people to promote brotherhood and mutual cohesion among all sections of the society to strengthen the social fabric of the State and contribute to the development. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Mr. Bhubaneswar Kalita has also extended its best wishes to the people of the State on the holy occasion of Chhath puja. AIR Guwahati Correspondent reports that security has been beefed up and a strict vigil is being maintained in the river-side puja places to stop any anti-social activities. Additional forces have been placed on security duty in the vulnerable and Hindi-speaking people dominated areas. The Guwahati City police have made elaborate arrangements to control traffic movement on the Brahmaputra river side roads in view of the Chhath Puja. Some routes are being diverted for the traffic.<br/><br/>
