Nation celebrates Vijay Diwas

Vijay Diwas commemorating India's victory over Pakistan in 1971 war, was observed today. The celebration marked the 46th anniversary of India's victory over its neighbour. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman accompanied by the chief of three services paid homage to Martyrs, at Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate, on the occasion. A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Colaba Military Station in Mumbai this morning. <br/> <br/>Vajra Corps also celebrated Vijay Diwas in Jalandhar to commemorate the finest hour of the Indian Armed Forces. Lt Gen Dushyant Singh, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps, veterans of the war and other senior serving and retired officers paid homage to the martyrs at the Vajra Corps War memorial. <br/> <br/>Eight Maha Vir Chakras, 47 Vir Chakras and numerous other awards were conferred on the valiant men of the Vajra Corps for their courage and selfless service to the Nation in the 1971 war. Reports of celebration were also received from other parts of the country. <br/> <br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has saluted the unflinching courage of all those who fought in the 1971 War and protected the nation diligently. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, every Indian is proud of their heroism and service. <br/>Bangladesh also celebrated the 46th anniversary of its emergence as a new nation.'
