The festival of Ugadi, Gudi Padava, Chaitra Sukladi, Ugadi, Navrah and Cheti Chand, was celebrated in different parts of the country today.In Andhra Pradesh, Ugadi was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety. <br/><br/>People enjoyed the traditional Ugadi 'pachadi to mark the new year. <br/><br/>Chief Minister K Rosaiah, several ministers and legislators attended the 'Panchanga Sravanam' organised at Ravindra Bharati auditorium in Hyderabad. <br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Rosaiah hoped that New Year would bless the state.<br/> <br/>In Karnataka, the festival Ugadi marked the onset of spring.<br/><br/>In Maharashtra, Gudi Padva marked the beginning of the New Year and the advent of spring. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that colorful Rangolis are desgined at the entrances of the houses. People greeted each other and relish traditional sweets at home.<br/><br/>The Sindhi community celebrated the festival 'Cheti Chand' in honour of the birth of Ishtadeva Udserolal, popularly known as Jhulelal, the Patron Saint of the Sindhis. On this day people worshiped water, the elixir of life.<br/><br/>In the Kashmir valley, people celebrated the festival as 'Navrah' marking the begining of new year. <br/><br/>In Jammu people gathered at Vaishnav Devi at Katra to perform Navratra Puja.<br/>In Uttarakhand, people are celebrated 'Navratri' and 'Navsumvapsar' (Hindu New Year) with special Poojan-Archan. A large number of devotees took holy dip in river Ganga.<br/><br/>In the capital Delhi a large number of devotees are thronging temples to perform puja.<br/><br/> President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have greeted the people on the occasions. The festival heralds the beginning of New Year. <br/> <br/>
