Nation celebrates its 66th Republic Day today

Nation is celebrating the 66th Republic Day today. The main function will be held at Rajpath in the national capital where President Pranab Mukherjee will unfurl the tricolour and take salute of the Parade. The Parade will showcase India's military might and cultural diversity to the world. US President Barack Obama will witness the parade as chief guest. The parade will start at 9:50 in the morning from Vijay Chowk and will proceed to the Red Fort ground passing through Rajpath, India Gate, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg. During this period, the traffic will remain diverted. No traffic will be allowed from Vijay Chowk to India Gate on Rajpath from 5:00 am to 12:30 pm. The entire city has been turned into a fortress ahead of the celebrations. Approximately 15,000 security cameras have been put up in the city. About 165 cameras have been installed on Rajpath alone. Six Metro stations in the vicinity of Rajpath will be shut for a few hours today as part of security arrangements. These stations are Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Patel Chowk, Race Course, Mandi House and Pragati Maidan.The direct relay of the Republic Day Parade and Cultural Pageant and the Amar Jawan Jyoti function will be broadcast today from 9.20 am onwards. The commentary in Hindi will be available on Indraprastha Channel, FM Gold, DTH Channel and additional frequencies and in English on Rajdhani Channel, FM Rainbow and additional frequencies. As a result, the announcements at 0920 hrs, News bulletin in Hindi at 1000 and 1100 hrs and News bulletin in English at 1005 hrs would stand cancelled. In case, the commentary exceeds 1200 hrs, News bulletin in English at 1200 hrs and in Hindi at 1205 hrs would also stand cancelled.
