Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated throughout the country today with religious fervour and gaiety. The Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Mosque in Delhi, Dr. Mufti Mohammed Mukarram said that Eid moon was sighted last evening. The President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, the Vice President, Mohammed Hamid Ansari and the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh have greeted the people on the occasion. In a message, Mrs. Patil said, may this festival strengthen mutual goodwill and inspire each one to follow the path of love, compassion and tolerance. In his message, Mohd Hamid Ansari said the festival symbolizes compassion, brotherhood and the spirit of sharing. The Prime Minister, in his message said the festival reflects the true spirit of our composite culture. Dr Manmohan Singh wished that the festival may strengthen our resolve to promote tolerance and peace and to live in harmony.
