Children’s day is being celebrated throughout the country today. The day is observed to mark the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.<br/>The nation is paying homage to Pandit Nehru on his 120th birth anniversary. Several functions are being organized throughout the country to mark the occasion. At Shanti Van, the Samadhi of Pandit Nehru in New Delhi, national leaders paid floral tributes to the marker of modern India. All religion prayer meetings were also organised there.<br/>Twenty children were conferred National Child awards today for their exceptional achievements in different fields. Among those who received the awards, this year's gold medal was given to Shruti. S of Karnatka for her exceptional skill in drawing and painting. <br/>Speaking after presenting the awards, Women & Child Development Minster Mrs. Krishnas Tirath reiterated Government's commitment to eradicate malnutrition among children. The Minster said that Government has earmarked Rs 4000 crore for two new schemes of Indira Gandhi Matray Sahyog Yojna and Rajiv Gandhi Girl Scheme.<br/>She also said that on 25th November her Ministry will launch a programme named 'daughter against dowry' in which school girls will join in protest to raise their voice against dowry.<br/>
