Nation celebrates 66th Independence Day tomorrow

Nation celebrates 66th Independence Day tomorrow. The main function will be held in the national capital where Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will address the nation and unfurl the national tri-colour from the historic ramparts of Redfort. There will be a Guard of honour by the Police and armed forces. Strict security arrangements have been made for Independence Day celebrations in Delhi. An impregnable ground to air security arrangements are in place in the national capital on the eve of the Independence Day celebrations.

housands of Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in and around the city , especially near the Red Fort .Around 50 CCTV Cameras have been installed and sharp shooters of the National Security Guard NSG have also been deployed on the high-rise buildings near the Fort. An intense vigil will also be maintained on key installations like Parliament complex, international airport, railway stations, inter-state bus terminals and Metro stations.

Besides patrolling of the skies by helicopters, an air defence mechanism will also be put in place around the venue to thwart any terror attacks. Delhi Police has also intensified checking at all the border points of NCR region. Our correspondent reports, due to security reasons, parking facilities at all the stations of Delhi Metro, will remain closed till 2 pm tomorrow.

All India Radio will broadcast running commentary in Hindi and English simultaneously from 0705 hrs on the flag hoisting ceremony and address to the nation by the Prime Minister. Consequently, there will be some changes in the news bulletins. The Hindi bulletin will be on air from 0810 a.m. instead of 0800 a.m. Similarly, English news bulletin will be broadcast from 0825 a.m. to 0840 a.m. In case of the relay goes beyond 08.10 a.m. the news in Hindi and English will follow it. Some changes have also been made in the Language bulletins .

Functions are also being held at all State Headquarters and Union Territories.
