A strong and resurgent India will be celebrating its 64th Republic Day tomorrow. This year’s parade will highlight the nation’s achievements in various fields, the military prowess, scintillating display of air power as also country’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. The parade ceremony will commence at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate where the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will lead the nation in paying homage to the martyrs by laying wreath. After unfurling of the National Flag, the National Anthem will be played. The parade will then commence and the President Pranab Mukherjee will take the salute. This year’s Chief Guest in the parade will be the King of Bhutan .
The progress by India in different fields will be showcased at Rajpath during the parade. Amid tight security, new inductions in armed forces including Agni- Five missile will also be on the display. The Indian Air Force will showcase its latest acquisitions on its tableau. Tableaux from 19 states and Central Ministries and Departments will present the varied historical and cultural heritage. 21 children who received bravery award this year will form part of the parade. The grand finale of the parade will be spectacular flypast by the Indian Air Force and the ceremony will culminate with National Anthem and release of balloons.
Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Khan Market, Race Course, Barakhamba Road, Mandi House and Pragati Maidan Metro stations will remain closed from 06.00 AM up to 12.30 PM tomorrow due to security reasons. However, passengers can use the interchange facility at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat.
