In Gujarat, the special court in Ahmedabad announced life term to all the convicts of Naroda Patiya case. BJP MLA and Ex. Minister in Narendra Modi Government, Mrs. Maya Kodanani has been sentenced to 28 years in jail for her involvement in 2002 post- Godhara Naroda Patiya riots case. Former Bajarang Dal leader Babu Bajarangi who was also convicted in the case, has been awarded life imprisonment till death. The remaining 30 convicts were also awarded life term. Kodanani would serve the jail under section 120(B), 307, 302 for criminal conspiracy and murder.
Special Court Judge Jyotsana Yagnik had however acquitted 29 accused in the case in which 97 people were killed. Our Ahmedabad Correspondent adds that for the first time in the history of India, the Court has announced ten years rigorous jail u/s 326 for communal riots.
