Narendra Singh Tomar launches Swachh Shakti Saptah at Gurugram

Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Narendra Singh Tomar today launched Swachh Shakti Saptah at Gurugram in Haryana. The week-long programme across the country will highlight the role of women in Swachh Bharat Mission and recognize their leadership. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Tomar lauded the leadership role of women in the implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission and for making Swachhta a Jan Andolan in rural India. <br/><br/>He announced that throughout the coming week, there will be nationwide events honouring women champions, women sarpanches, ASHA workers, school teachers, young students and senior citizens. The Minister said the week will culminate with a mega-event in Gujarat named Swachh Shakti 2017, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address six thousand women sarpanches and honour them for their contribution to Swachh Bharat. <br/><br/>Mr Tomar also announced the number of Open Defecation Free- ODF districts in the country has now crossed 100 mark and over 1.7 lakh villages have become ODF.
