Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances amendment bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday. The bill provides for consolidating and amending the law relating to narcotic drugs. The Bill also seeks to put in place enabling provisions for the introduction of an alternate method of obtaining alkaloids opium. The bill also addresses the anomalies arising out of the amendments made in 2001 to further strengthen the provisions of the proposed Act.
