Narayanaswamy's call for ending corruption in public service

The Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office, V. Narayanasamy today called on District Collectors to root out corruption in publice service and ensure effective implementation of flagship programs of the Government at the ground level.

He urged them to strictly supervise and monitor expenditure of public money under Government Schemes including the MGNAREGA and Prime Minister's Gram Sadak Yojana and Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan, and ensure timely delivery of services to the people.

Addressing the Annual conference of Administrative Reforms Secretaries in New Delhi, Mr. Naranayaswamy said, administrative reforms is a continuing process to ensure transparency and acountability in public administration and for institutional strengthening of Indian democracy.

Terming District Collectors as the nucleus of public administration, Mr. V. Narayanasamy asked them to bridge the gap between the government and the people. He also pointed out that the District Collectors have to work on the field to meet the expectaions and aspirations of the common man.

Mr. Narayanasamy said, the anti-corruption legislative actions initiated by the UPA government, will go a long way in tackling the menace. He said, the Lokpal Bill, the Public procurement Bill for streamlining public procurement, Foreign Public Institutions Corruption Bill, the Whistle Blowers Bill and India's signing of the United Nations Convention against Corruption are major strides in tackling corruption.

Mr. Narayanasamy said, 54 Special courts were also set up for the trial of corruption courses. The Minister also sought the cooperation of States for improving delivery of public services and to ensure a transparent and accountable public administration.
