The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project will supply first tranche of 1000 megawats of power to Tamil Nadu. The project will start functioning in the first week of next month. Minister in the Prime Minister's office V. Narayanasamy said that enriched uranium has been fed to the nuclear plant and the lid is closed. Mr. Narayanasamy cited letters from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalitha to the Prime Minister on power shortage in the state. He said, centre is getting all support from Tamil Nadu government on the project.

AIR correspondent reports that the widening gap between demand and supply has created a huge power crisis in the state and the supply of power from the nuclear power project will help ease the situation.
