Nandigram violence: Lakshman Seth remanded to CID custody

The alleged mastermind of Nandigram violence in West Bengal in 2007, former CPI(M) MP, Lakshman Seth has been remanded to 3 days of CID custody. He was arrested from a Mumbai guest house and was produced in a Haldia court today. Two other CPI(M) leaders, Amiya Sahoo and Ashok Guria, arrested along with Seth were also remanded to CID custody for three days by the sub divisional Judicial Magistrate of Haldia, Ms Sarbani Basu Mallick.
Some Trinamool Congress supporters and villagers from Nandigram demonstrated in the court premises, demanding capital punishment for Lakshman Seth. The authorities had clamped Section 144 under CrPC anticipating violence, earlier in the day. The CID has put charges under the Arms act, criminal conspiracy, forgery and cheating against the three. Seth had been on the run ever since the CID filed the chargesheet on 30th January this year before the Haldia court.
