Namami Gange projects for cleaning river Ganga launched

Namami Gange programme for cleaning of river Ganga was launched on Thursday from Haridwar.<br/><br/>Simultaneous programmes were launched at many other places also for cleaning of Ganga and its tributaries from Gangotri to Howrah.<br/><br/>Inaugurating the main programme organized at Haridwar, Minister of Water Resources Uma Bharati said, the cleaning up of Ganga from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar will be completed by 2018.<br/><br/>She said, projects under Namami Gange involve modernization and redevelopment of Ghats and crematoriums and other development activities.<br/><br/>Union Minister sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti launched several projects as part of Namami Gange in Allahabad on Thursday.<br/><br/>Launching the new projects, she said that flow of pious and clean Ganga river is being ensured all over country through Namami Gange.<br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh total 112 projects are being launched through this ambitious scheme. Under Namami Gange, the Union government has allocated Rs. 20,000 crore budget for implementation of several projects.<br/><br/>All initial works under the Namami Gange will be completed by December 2017.<br/><br/>Talking to AIR a senior projects official from ministry said that in Uttar Pradesh, 399 River Ghats, 145 Cremation Ghats will be upgraded and rehabilitated and other 190 village level sewages will be treated at this initial level of works under the time bound manner.
