Nairobi mall attack: Two Indians among 39 killed

The Indian Mission in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, is in touch with the families of Indians who have been killed and injured in a terrorist attack on a shopping mall. Replying to questions on the attack, on twitter, this morning, MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said the Mission is ready to provide all assistance to the affected families. He said two Indian nationals were killed and four injured in the attack leaving a total of 39 people dead. At least 150 people have been injured

Expressing shock at the terrorist attack, BJP leader Sushma Swaraj tweeted, the humanity must unite and defeat terror.

Meanwhile, an unknown number of hostages are still being held by Islamist gunmen who are locked in a stand-off with security forces. The government's National Disaster Operation Centre said in a situation update posted on Twitter that the number of hostage is still unknown, but they are in several locations.

Somalia's Al Qaeda-linked Shebab rebels have claimed responsibility for the attack. The UN Security Council has condemned in the strongest possible terms the terror attack at Nairobi with UN Chief Ban Ki-moon calling the premeditated act against defenceless civilians as reprehensible.
