Naidu supports Delhi govt's decision to hike salary of MLAs

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu today supported Delhi government's decision to hike the salary and allowances of MLAs. He said there are justified reasons to such an increase of the pay of the elected representatives across the country including MPs. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Mr Naidu, however, said the quantum of hike should be done keeping in view of the revenue and resources of that particular state.

He also took a dig at the criticism in some quarters over the hike saying it has become a fashion to raise fingers on elected representatives and ignore others. The Minister said that every government also takes steps to hike the salary and allowance of judges, employees and wages for labour from time to time. Yesterday, Delhi Assembly had approved a bill hiking the pay of MLAs and ministers by 400 per cent.
