Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu has defended the selection cities under the Centre's Smart City project. In a series of tweets yesterday evening, Mr Naidu said, the process for selection has been rigorous, extensive and transparent. He also advised the states that missed out in the first round to improve their proposals in the second round instead of engaging in blame game. Mr. Naidu noted that gap analysis has already been communicated to the states that missed out in the first round. Altogether 100 cities are to be developed into smart cities as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious programme.
