Naidu appeals to society to refrain from politicizing issues pertaining to farmers

Union Minister for Urban Development and Information & Broadcasting, M. Venkaiah Naidu appealed to all sections of the society including political parties to refrain from politicizing issues pertaining to farmers in the country. <br/><br/>He said, this would only help protect farmers interests rather than deteriorating them further. Addressing the media at Swarnabharath Trust in Atkur near Vijayawada today, Mr. Naidu said the issues related to the agriculture sector and the farming community in the country can only be addressed by the Centre with supportive cooperation of the States. <br/><br/><br/>Advising the farmers to guard over the vested interests of certain sections of the society which are out to provoke emotions in order to create law and order disturbances, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu said the NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is according utmost importance to agriculture sector. <br/><br/>Mr. Naidu pointed that during UPA's regime between 2010-11 to 2013-14 the total budget allocated for agriculture was only Rs. 1,04,337 crore, where as the NDA government has allocated Rs. 1, 64, 415 crore during 2014-15 to 2017-18 showing an increase of 57.58 per cent, adding that the credit facility for farming and agriculture had also been raised to Rs. 10 Lakh crore.<br/><br/>Mr. Venkaiah Naidu maintained that the Union government has brought in "Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana" for the welfare of the farmers. He also cited the Centre's initiative towards the welfare of the farmers in the form of e-NAM, one nation – one market in which 417 regulated markets from 13 states have joined. <br/> <br/>In terms of calamity relief and crop damage compensations, Mr. Naidu said that the norms for natural calamities have further been revised than in earlier instances where 50 per cent crop damage is used to be considered for compensation, where as today even a 32 per cent crop damage would entail for a suitable compensation. <br/>
