Naidu appeals to Oppn to pass GST Bill in proposed extended Monsoon session

Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today appealed to the opposition parties to cooperate in passing the Goods and Services Tax (GST)Bill in the proposed extended monsoon session. He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Second Regional Workshop on Smart Cities in Hyderabad. He said passing of the GST bill is the need of the hour especially in view of the changing global economic scenario. He said discussions are on with the political parties to ensure the passage of the bill in Parliament. <br/><br/>Earlier inaugurating the workshop on smart cities, he asked Mayors and Municipal commissioners to take lead in changing the mindset of people and motivate them towards achieving smart cities. He asked the smart city planners to ensure peoples participation. <br/><br/>Emphasizing the need to bring reforms in taxation in municipalities, he said people are ready to pay for services in case of proper infrastructure and transparency provided in the administration. He highlighted the need for fulfilling 25 points like Housing for all, rainwater harvest, connectivity of water bodies, waste water management, road network, zero waste city, citizen friendly administration, education and health facilities for cities to become smart ones. Mayors, Commissioners from 40 cities in 11 central and southern States and union territories besides urban development secretaries have attended the meeting. The workshop is the part of consultations being held by the central government. The final and third work shop will be conducted on , 12th of this month in Kolkata.
