Nagpur pitch rated as poor by ICC

ICC has rated, as poor, the pitch of Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium at Nagpur where India had defeated South Africa last week to win the 4-match series. This has triggered a review of the performance of the pitch under the ICC Pitch Monitoring Process. Match Referee Jeff Crowe submitted his report to the ICC expressing the concerns of the match officials over the performance of the pitch. The report has been forwarded to BCCI which now has 14 days to provide its response. The pitch at the Vidarbha cricket ground saw ample turn from the first day resulting in the game being over within three days. After the BCCI submits its response, ICC will consider all the evidence, including studying video footage of the match, before reaching their decision on whether or not the pitch was poor and if so, whether a penalty should be imposed. The pitch has received flak from many former cricketers, including Australia's Matthew Hayden and England's Michael Vaughan. Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Team director Ravi Shastri had, however, defended the pitch, saying there was nothing wrong with the track. The visiting South African team had not lodged any complaints nor they made any critical comments on the pitch.India had won the Nagpur Test by 124 runs to end South Africa's nine-year stretch without an away series defeat. The fourth and final Test will be played at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi from tomorrow.
