The eighth anniversary of tsunami calamity is being observed today. The tsunami hit on December 26, 2004 and devastated Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu where more than 6,065 persons died.
Our correspondent reports that Nagapptinam bore the brunt of the devastating tsunami which hit eight years ago on this day.
It was a moving sight when today people came silently to pay their homage to the departed souls of their dear and near ones.
The tsunami had left a trail of destruction and death which had left indelible marks of sorrow and pain in the hearts of survivors. Many of them still fear the fury of the sea and the images of children swallowed by huge waves haunt them.
Fishermen from Nagapattinam, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari and Cuddalore today did not venture into the seas as a mark of respect to the dead. Candles were lit in all the 54 fishermen villages in Nagai and thousands of people led by collector Munusamy paid homage at the tsunami memorial.
