Nagaland Hornbill Festival begins; Governor urges people to promote rich cultural heritage of State

The Hornbill Festival, the biggest cultural extravaganza of Nagaland, kicked off with colourful renditions of traditional music, dances and contemporary in one roof at Naga Heritage village Kisama this evening.<br />'' <br />'' Addressing the opening ceremony, Governor of Assam and Nagaland, Prof Jagdish Mukhi said Nagaland has rich culture, tradition, and customs that are unique- the dance and music are well known even outside the country.<br />'' <br />'' He urged the young Naga generation to take pride in the tradition and also to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of the  State.  He said the Government of India under the dynamic leadership of PM Modi is committed to ensure the development of the region.<br />'' <br />'' Governor Mukhi said Central Government and State Government are working together to bring in lasting peace in the land.  He said the day is not very far from signing the much-awaited peace agreement with Naga rebel groups. He said all, as beneficiaries, should make up their minds and create a conducive atmosphere for welcoming the new dawn of a peaceful and progressive Nagaland.<br />'' <br />'' On the occasion, the Governor salute all medical professionals, Doctors, Nurses, Lab Technicians, Ambulance Drivers, Attendants, Safai Karmacharies, and many more from other diverse professions for their devotion to duty and untiring support in the fight against COVID-19.  <br />'' <br />'' Chief Minister Mr. Neiphiu Rio in his welcome address said the Hornbill Festival continues to contribute immensely in enhancing the tourism brand of Nagaland and its people as it gathers strength with every edition. He said, this festival alone creates thousands of employment avenues in multiple sectors and provides opportunities to the locals. The Chief Minister said this 22nd Edition of the festival will be celebrated in 6 districts of Nagaland.  <br />'' <br />'' Ambassador of Israel to India Mr. Naor Gilon, United States Consul General Ms. Melinda Pavek, and Consul General of Germany Mr. Manfred Auster will be the guests of Honour also addressed the gathering.<br />'' <br />'' The opening ceremony culminated with the flight of the Hornbill- A musical presentation by Task Force for Music and Arts Nagaland.
