The Independence Day was celebrated in Kohima as elsewhere in the country with great enthusiasm and fervour and with renewed pledge to put in place a just and equitable system that does not discriminate. Addressing the people on the occasion at the Secretariat Plaza after hoisting the tricolour, the State Chief Minister Mr Neiphiu Rio reminded the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters who have laid the foundations of a democratic, secular and progressive Indian nation. He asked the people of the State to lay a solid foundation of progressive society that rises above tribalism and injustice.
